Vrbnik Wine Tasting by Boat — Krk Island's Best Kept Secret
A Wine That Exists Nowhere Else
Žlahtina is a white wine grape variety that grows in one place on the entire planet — the vineyards surrounding Vrbnik on Krk Island. Arriving at Vrbnik by boat and tasting this unique wine on a clifftop terrace overlooking the sea is one of the most special experiences in Kvarner.
About Vrbnik
Vrbnik is a medieval hilltop village perched on a 50-metre cliff overlooking the eastern coast of Krk. Its narrow stone streets, ancient churches, and panoramic views make it one of the most atmospheric villages in Croatia.
The village is also famous for claiming the narrowest street in the world — a passage just 43 cm wide that you can (barely) squeeze through.
The Wine Experience
Several family wineries in Vrbnik welcome visitors for tastings. You'll try Žlahtina in various styles — dry, semi-dry, and sparkling — paired with local olive oil, cheese, and prosciutto from Krk. The wineries are small and personal, and the winemakers love sharing the story of their unique grape.
Getting There by Boat
Your boat docks near Vrbnik, and the village is a short uphill walk from the shore. Looking up at the village from sea level is breathtaking — the houses seem to grow directly out of the cliff.
Combine Vrbnik with a morning swim at Stara Baška bays and lunch in Krk old town for a perfect full-day Krk itinerary.
