Dolphin Watching Lošinj — Boat Trip from Opatija to See Wild Dolphins

Wild Dolphins in the Adriatic

Most people don't know that wild bottlenose dolphins live year-round in the waters between Cres and Lošinj islands — just 35-40 minutes by speedboat from Opatija. A resident population of approximately 200 dolphins calls these waters home, making Lošinj one of the best dolphin watching destinations in the entire Mediterranean.

When and Where to See Dolphins

Dolphins are most active in the early morning and late afternoon. Your skipper knows the areas where dolphins are most frequently spotted — typically in the channel between Cres and Lošinj and around the southern tip of Lošinj island.

While sightings cannot be guaranteed (these are wild animals), encounters are common especially between May and October. When dolphins appear, they often swim alongside the boat, bow-ride, and play in the wake — an unforgettable experience for adults and children alike.

Combine with Lošinj Exploration

A dolphin watching trip pairs perfectly with exploring Mali Lošinj — one of the most photogenic harbours in the Adriatic. Colourful Venetian-era houses line the waterfront, and the town offers the Apoxyomenos Museum, the Garden of Fine Scents, and excellent seafood restaurants.

After exploring the town, cruise to Čikat bay for swimming in warm, shallow water surrounded by centuries-old pine forest — perfect for families.

Responsible Dolphin Watching

Neptun Charter follows the guidelines established by the Blue World Institute for marine research. We maintain a respectful distance, reduce speed when dolphins are present, and never chase or encircle them. Our goal is to observe these beautiful animals without disturbing their natural behaviour.
